Japan looks set to regain its crown as the leading market for
flavoured alcoholic beverages (FABs), despite continued strong
growth in the market which usurped its position, the US.
Increasing disposable incomes are driving sales of almost every
packaged drink category in Russia. The proliferation of new
products, in new packaging format such as PET, will continue to
stimulate growth.
British beer sales rose last year for the first time since 1997,
but the improvement was due to a combination of one off factors
such as the Golden Jubilee and the World Cup.
The German spirits market seems to be in almost terminal decline,
but there could be a ray of hope from FABs, the ready-to-drink
variants of popular spirit brands such as Smirnoff Ice and Bacardi
